The concept of filters can also be described as a method of selective
perception and intermediation. Filters are applied to separate the
important from the unimportant, to distinguish spam from relevant
information, to eliminate contamination, but also to draw borderlines,
to define access rights and membership, to manipulate processing. To
find your way through the world of information, you have to use filters
consciously and unconsciously. Filters can help to position yourself
since they manage eventually whether something (and what exactly) should
be kept, noticed or simply forgotten. Filters can be software,
programmes, technical devices or equipment, but also signals and signs.
We present projects that deal with the concept of filters in an artistic
way, that work with a focus on perception through reduction or that
concentrate on a conscious limitation in respect to the choice of the
source material.
